Il nuovo zoom standard con apertura costante 2,8 - Canon EF-S 17–55mm f/2,8 IS USM - ha un motore silenzioso e veloce e lo stabilizzatore d'immagine, nella più recente versione.
Si tratta di uno zoom professionale, luminoso, che può essere montato sulle reflex Canon EOS con baionetta EF-S, quali la 300D, la 20D, la 350D e la nuovissima EOS 30D (applicando il fattore di conversione di 1,6x lo zoom, su queste macchine, diventa un 27 - 88 mm). Le lenti UD e gli elementi asferici promettono immagini nitide, ben definite e con una resa cromatica di livello superiore.
